Funded by European Innovation Council, the consortium of ESOHISTO, consisting of 4 partners from academia, research institute and industry spanning areas of expertise in medicine, optics, information technology and engineering, sets path to develop the first in vivo endoscopy in the world able to deliver a comprehensive cellular and molecular mapping of long segments of gastrointestinal mucosa, with the hope of revolutionizing disease diagnosis and treatment by uncovering 3D organization of cells, their cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, and the biochemical events underlying their aberrant behavior in living tissues.
